Netflix is a streaming content payment platform with a large catalog of ad-free audiovisual products. It may make you think that advertising is not possible, but a brand new update is coming with the Basic with Ads option, which will launch in the US as of November 3rd. With this little surprise for Netflix users, there will be a difference of 4-5 minutes of ad impressions per hour. Advertisements announced that they will be displayed between 15-30 seconds at the beginning or middle of the content.

By design, a countdown is expected in the corner to indicate the end of the ad. In this process, users whose ads are on the plan will not be able to download episodes or movies. In addition, some productions will not be featured due to licensing issues. Although Netflix advertising subscription started recently, it gave the sad news to citizens living in Turkey. I hope this feature comes to Turkey with a new update soon.

 

Four types of product placement on Netflix

 

  • Verbal insertion: Actors neither manipulate nor interact with the object they promote, but only refer to the product in question.
  • Passive placement: A very common type of product placement. You can see how the item is part of the set and appears in the background in the drama, but the actors don’t mention it by name and don’t use it.
  • Active site: The product advertisement has a bigger role in the series, the characters directly manipulate it which gives more visibility.
  • Hyperactive site: Characters manipulate the product as in the case of active placement, but also explicitly reference it.
